Do Atheists have Superior Thinking Skills?

I would assert that not all atheists have superior critical thinking skills. Some, perhaps even the majority, are people who do not believe in any god because they’ve been brought up in a household where religion is never discussed: it’s just not on their agenda, so it is something they have not thought about. Many … Continue reading »

Mormonism – The Sect.

I’m going to write more on religious sects, but today I want to focus on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormonism). Before I start, I would like to point out that everything below is supported by and documented in official Mormon Documentation, which Mormons hold sacred, namely, The BOOK OF MORMON, … Continue reading »

Atheist Ethics and Abortion

Some atheists seem to have strongly held beliefs about a whole host of things that have nothing to do with the existence or non-existence any deity/god/supreme being. And they are not always as clear about the evidence behind  those beliefs as they could be.  For example, there is the ‘supernatural’. Most atheists do not believe in any form … Continue reading »

Intelligent Design? I think not…

Creationism/Intelligent Design is an example of a pseudo-scientific way of thinking for people who are unable, because of what they have come to believe is the truth, to accept a different and actually provable truth. It is pseudo-scientific because it pretends to be a scientific theory in competition with Darwinian evolutionary theory, however, unlike Darwin’s … Continue reading »

Death of a Hero

One of the most courageous thinkers and writers of our age, Christopher Hitchens, has passed away at the age of just 62, from cancer. Author of many works, including ‘God is not Great’, Christopher was an outspoken atheist, afraid of no person and of no organisation whether religious or political. Nothing stopped him from speaking … Continue reading »

The Self-Delusion of Religious Belief

We are often wrong about those things of which we are most certain. To say that something is ‘real for me’ may just be another way of saying, ‘I like my delusion, so let me keep it’. Some people are convinced they have been kidnapped by aliens from space. At any one time, up and … Continue reading »

Murder in the name of God

Our knowledge of human history is unfortunately very short, but as far back as we can look, in the ancient writings of all deity-based religions, we see death, torture, and destruction in the name of a deity. The Incas strangled virgins, and burned up to 200 children at a time to appease their gods. The Aztecs sacrificed more than 20,000 people a year. In India, an estimated 2,000,000 over the years were strangled by members of the Thuggee sect, as sacrifices to the god Kali… Continue reading »

The Confusion of the Beautiful with the Divine

Some people say that beautiful things, including those in nature, must have been divinely inspired or ‘intelligently designed’ by their god. However, we evolved in a way that makes us find our children, aspects of nature, art, and music beautiful, in the same way that we evolved to find some members of our own species beautiful. We fall in love, mate, and protect our young and our mate, and all involved have a greater chance of survival. So we all have a feeling for beauty, and from ancient carvings, jewellery, and cave art, it appears that people have always had these feelings. Continue reading »
